Since January 6th, a series of devastating wildfires fueled by record-breaking Santa Ana winds have swept through Los Angeles County, destroying thousands of homes and businesses, killing at least two dozen people, and displacing hundreds of thousands more.
The two largest fires—Palisades and Eaton—have burned over 37,000 acres, destroyed and damaged more than 11,000 structures, damaged and remain only partially contained.
As the longest-standing humanitarian NGO based in Los Angeles, Operation USA responded immediately. Once our staff were safe, we worked tirelessly to assess the needs of affected communities and mobilize relief efforts. With the generous support of corporate partners and donors, we are focusing on delivering critical supplies to families and front-line responders.
Week of 1/20:
We continue to distribute much needed supplies to evacuees throughout Los Angeles. In addition to in-kind support, we’ve begun exploring ways we can provide cash grants to small groups on the front lines.
Week of 1/13:
Thanks to corporate partners like Pelican and Meathead Movers, we’ve begun distributing thousands of dollars’ worth of shelter supplies, hygiene products, and masks to families displaced by the Eaton fires. These essential items are reaching communities in dire need of support.
Week of 1/6:
During the initial outbreak, our main office was near a mandatory evacuation zone. Despite working from home for safety, our LA-based team quickly coordinated with agency partners to deliver immediate relief. Masks, hygiene kits, and shelter supplies were provided to front-line organizations serving evacuees.
We remain committed to supporting the health and well-being of impacted families during this ongoing disaster. Your support makes it possible for us to continue this critical work.
